Abia State Government today , has commenced laboratory analysis of suspected COVID-19 samples collected within the state. The test is done at the Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Centre, Amachara, in the outskirts of the state capital. The NCDC team also trained the staff of the laboratory and supervised the analysis of the initial test samples with results said to have tallied with that obtained at the agency facility in Abuja. Before the test commencement, COVID-19 samples were taken to Irrua in Edo state which was the nearest location of the laboratory to the state. READ ALSO: 49 Health workers tests positive of covid19 in Enugu Samples collected in the state were later taken to Abakaliki, Ebony State when the laboratory was established in that state. Today the report from NCDC has it that additional 13 lawmakers of the Imo state House of Assembly have tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19). The new cases were confirmed barely six days after a lawmaker, whose identity was not released, tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the state. As it stands now with the new development, it brings the total number of lawmakers affected by coronavirus to 14 total cases in Imo to 243. The infected lawmakers have gone into self-isolation and the State Assembly Complex in Owerri has remained shut since the first lawmaker was diagnosed with the virus.
