Abia State Government today , has commenced laboratory analysis of suspected COVID-19 samples collected within the state. The test is done at the Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Centre, Amachara, in the outskirts of the state capital. The NCDC team also trained the staff of the laboratory and supervised the analysis of the initial test samples with results said to have tallied with that obtained at the agency facility in Abuja. Before the test commencement, COVID-19 samples were taken to Irrua in Edo state which was the nearest location of the laboratory to the state. Report has it as of today, that Forty-nine health workers in Enugu State Nigeria are said to have tested positive for COVID-19 But despite this, the government says the health workers have continued to do their best in the prevailing circumstances to deliver on their mandates. This was confirmed on Monday, 22nd of June. The state, however, confirmed 68 new cases of coronavirus , leading to a total case of 144 cases. The Enugu Ministry of Health in a statement stated that the number of active cases is 110, while 29 patients have been discharged and 5 have died. The State’s Commissioner for Health, Obi Emmanuel Ikechukwu has urged all the residents not to suffer in silence as this is not a time to avoid visits to hospitals when medical attention is needed. Reports say he died at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital Isolation Centre at around 12:30pm on Thursday. The lawmaker was said to be diabetic and also exhibited fatigue, fever, breathlessness and cough. However a source reported that the deceased was treated for malaria and pneumonia and didn’t improve from the medications administered to him. The same source also added that some persons who visited the lawmaker at the hospital are already showing symptoms of COVID-19. Announcing its daily report, via its verified twitter handle, the Centre said it has recorded 389 new confirmed cases, as toll rises to 12,233. Despite measures in place to cushion the spread of Covid-19 pandemic in the country, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, yesterday, said the virus has killed about three hundred and forty-two, (342) persons in the country. Statistically, it said that the 389 new cases are reported from 23 states namely- Lagos(66), FCT (50), Delta(32), Oyo(31), Borno (26), Rivers(24), Edo (23), Ebonyi(23), Anambra(17), Gombe(17), Nasarawa(14), Imo(12), Kano (12), Sokoto(12), Jigawa (8), Ogun(7), Bauchi (5), Kebbi (2), Kaduna(2), Katsina(2), Ondo(2), Abia(1), Niger(1). Recently, People have been anxious to hear from St Joseph's Hospital Adazi-Nnukwu  in Anocha L.G.A Anambra state with regards to a confirmed case of covid 19 in the hospital. Responding to the public in a formal press release the administration of the Hospital said it admitted a patient who was referred from Regina Caeli Hospital Awka on the 7th of April 2020. As reported by a medical staff the patient persistently was coughing out blood which made them suspect it was a case of covid 19.  As directed by the NCDC they didn't hesitate to send the blood sample of the patient for test. As of today 11th April 2020, St Joseph's hospital claimed it has not received any formal result of the patient from the body.
