Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Daniel Pondei, appeared to faint as the House of Representatives committee on NDDC grilled him on Monday Acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Daniel Pondei appears to faint on Monday during interrogation on Monday. The committee is in its fourth day of public hearing as it investigates alleged financial misappropriation at the agency. Pondei had been grilled for over an hour and when he slowly slumped over his desk, appearing too faint. Once he was spotted, several people present at the hearing rushed to his aid, propping him up and attempting to stabilise him, with the proceedings halted. “This might just be the last straw that would break the camel’s back.” As The Nigeria Labour Congress has kicked against the new fuel price of N143.8 announced by the Petroleum Products Price Regulatory Agency on Wednesday. NLC, in a statement by its President, Ayuba Wabba, claimed that the hike in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit commonly called ‘petrol’ from N121 to N143.80 at a time Nigerians and businesses were struggling to cope with the consequences of COVID-19 pandemic, was the height of insensitivity by the government. The statement argued that “PPPRA contradicted itself when it said that the latest price increase described as an “advisory” was meant to regulate a product that government claims had been de-regulated.” According to NLC in rejecting the new fuel price, noted that “the hike in the pump price of petrol was announced without the approval of the board of the PPPRA and the oversight ministry speaks volume of the arbitrariness and public contempt in the operation...

President Buhari Directs Relevant Authorities To Assist Victims Of Fire Outbreak In Benin

The President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari on Monday 22nd June 2020 called on local and federal authorities to provide every necessary assistance to victims of the fire incident in Oba Market, Benin, Edo State Nigeria. The President's call was revealed in a statement by spokesman Garba Shehu. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who lost their shops and wares," the President was quoted to have said. According to Shehu's statement, the President also directed an investigation into the cause of the inferno, in order to avoid the horrific situation in the future, while condoling with all those that were affected. A section of the popular Oba Market was gutted by fire early Monday. . The inferno was put out by firefighters who were supported by operatives of the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force, among others.

Mr Ize-Iyamu emerge the winner of Edo APC primary election

At the end of the battle the cotton was drawn, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu was  declared the winner of the governorship primary Election Mr Ize-Iyamu, who enjoys the support of the embattled national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, defeated two other aspirants – Pius Odubu and Osaze Obazee – to win the primary. The direct primary was reportedly conducted in the 18 local governments of Edo State. In the result announced by the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, Mr Ize-Iyamu scored 27,833 votes while Mr Odubu, the former deputy governor of the state, came second with 3,776. Mr Obazee garnered over 2,000 votes, said Mr Izodinma who is the chairman of the primary committee of the party. Mr Ize-Iyamu, who was the opposition PDP governorship candidate in 2016, will now fly the flag of the APC in the September governorship election.
